An argument with the trainer and background staff resulted in the Frenchman being dropped for their most recent game, but he’s back in the squad this week.

Mikel Arteta has discussed his decision to drop Matteo Guendouzi in the Arsenal squad a week.

The midfielder was dropped from the squad for Sunday’s win against Newcastle due to an debate he had with Arteta and members of his coaching team through the Gunners’ mid-season training camp in Dubai.

The 20-year-old trained with his team-mates on Wednesday and could make his return in the Europa League match against Olympiacos on Thursday.

He could wind up back at the starting XI as Lucas Torreira is going to be absent with illness, while the north London outfit will be without Mesut Ozil for private reasons.

And Arteta says his choice was down to the way the participant behaves and trains since he brought him back to the squad.

“I just do my group selection and the team about how they train, how they perform, how they act,” Arteta stated in a press conference on Wednesday in advance of the game in Greece.

“Every week it’ll be different. 1 week it’ll be one motive, 1 week it will be an additional reason.

“It was about how we train, how we play, how we live. I need the best players to the sport and I select them compared to what I see on a daily basis.

Arteta makes his European debut as a coach as soon as the Gunners confront the Greek giants in the first leg of the last-32 tie.

Along with the 37-year-old is excited for the experience at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.

“It’s another huge competition for us. We know the competition we’ll have tomorrow and we need to be prepared,” he said.

“I’m really excited. I have been watching them a lot. They’re so used to dominating the league so we must adapt and play the sort of game the opponent needs.

“Together, they look very alive with a very clear idea about what they what to do. They don’t play with regard to the opponent – that is what I enjoy the most.”

January signing Pablo Mari is yet to make his senior debut but featured for the club’s reserves this week.

And Arteta is happy with the 26-year-old center-back’s job up to now.

“Mari’s devotion has been very good. He did well another day and hopefully soon we can begin to use him,” he said.

Following the Olympiacos match, Arsenal will return to London for a Premier League game at home to Everton on Sunday.
