JJ Sports asserts that it is “totally untrue” that the participant is discussing a switch to Emirates Stadium after quotes emerged from his dad.
Thomas Partey isn’t in discussions with Arsenal over a possible transfer to Emirates Stadium, according to the Atletico Madrid midfielder’s agents.
The participant’s father, Jacob Partey, had informed Ghana-established radio channel Tru FM that talks with the Gunners were occurring and that he would be happy if he made the switch to join Mikel Arteta’s side.
He explained: “I called my child after hearing the rumours and he explained that the rumours are accurate. He told me they are holding discussions between him and Arsenal. It is dependent on the deal Atletico are demanding.
“If he goes to Arsenal, handsome, they have a lot of fans in Ghana. I will be happy if he decides to move to Arsenal. What they’re discussing now is the way Atletico will launch him.”
It remains to be seen if Arsenal will decide to activate the 50m clause whenever it’s still applicable, with the Ghana international had been on the club’s radar for some time and first discussions over a movement having taken place last summer.
Regardless of the speculation surrounding a move to north London, resources have told Goal that Atletico remain in talks over extending Partey’s deal at Wanda Metropolitano and are convinced that the player wants to stay.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are looking to sign a midfielder when the transfer window opens, with the futures of Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira uncertain.
Uruguay global Torreira is on the wishlist of various Serie A clubs while Xhaka, who nearly left Emirates Stadium in January, continues to draw interest from Germany.
